Affordable Green Buildings
The rapidly growing green movement is driven not only by
concerns about global warming and the environment but also by practical
needs such as the high cost of energy and non-renewable raw materials. Our communities are concerned about the
lack of water and sewer resources and buildings are at the heart of this
issue. Research has found that
buildings are responsible for 12% of the potable water use, 65% of waste
output, 70% of electricity consumption and produce 30% of the greenhouse
gases.
The U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) has created a system
to define “green” building designs. That system is called LEED®, which
stands for Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design. This system has
gained wide acceptance since its creation in 1998.
Butler Manufacturing has always been supportive of
value-driven sustainable construction and has become a member of USGBC.
Butler buildings have many inherently green qualities and can make
significant contributions towards gaining LEED® certification. What is even
more important is the contribution Butler Builders® can make towards
designing and constructing affordable green projects. LEED® is a
consultative team effort and design-build is tailor made for this process.

the environment, offer healthier work environments, and are energy
efficient and cost effective to build and maintain.
